Saw several years ago. The violence escalates to insane levels of mind-numbing brutality (as it should in a slasher movie!), but what makes it a compelling watch is its exploration of survival and death, about how a struggling group of punk rockers stuck in a backstage
green room fight, shoot and slash their way out of a murderous gang's clutches, resulting in a truly terrifying movie (abound with wry humour) that throws up an endless list of surprises despite the bleak outlook and the inevitable narrowing of options for the film's protagonists. Gripping!
