Music Review: Bangistan (Hindi)
Composer(s): Ram Sampath

Sona Mohapatra, Abhishek Nailwal and Shadab Faridi excel in the qawwali'esque Ishq Karenge, but that's about it. Its EDM version fares no better either. The patriotic song Mann Mein Hai Vishwaas gets a revolutionary cum satirical twist in Hogi Kranti, while the more intense Suraj Jagan-sung Is Duniya Se Ladna Hai is situational. Benny Dayal, Neeraj Shridhar, Aditi Singh Sharma and Janusz Kruciński bring on the energy in the exuberant Celtic dance anthem Saturday Night, and Meri Zidd, with its frenzied guitar sounds and Siddharth Basrur's manic vocals, is one wild hard rock number. The pick of the soundtrack however is Maula, which transcends its sufi-bhajan touches to deliver a poignant message about communal harmony. (The tune reminded me of Jee Le Zaraa, no?) Not one of Ram Sampath's best, but Bangistan sails though.
