Music Review: Revolver Rani (Hindi)
Composer(s): Sanjeev Srivastava

The jazzy title song is definitely a funky listen and Usha Uthup seems to have great fun crooning it! Its Reprise version takes a more bassy approach and is equally good, if not better. Thaayein Kare Katta's (Piyush Mishra) folksy touches are quite interestingly done, while the melody Kaafi Nahi Chaand is beautiful, both in terms of orchestration and Asha Bhosle's fantastic rendition. Chal Lade Re Bhaiya's heady beats are catchy and in the soft rock based Sulgi Hui Hai Raakh, the composer gets the arrangements perfectly right. Rekha Bhardwaj is marvellous in the folksy Banna Banni, and so are Avi Dutta - who sounds like Kumar Sanu for all good reasons - and Anweshaa Dutta in the 90's throwback Bol Rahi Hai Payal.
Saawan Ki Aye Hawa's (Garima Aneja, Rahul Gandhi) lovely rustic base is ear-pleasing and the lullaby'ish Chanda Ki Katori Hai, in two separate versions sung by Garima Aneja and Piyush Mishra, is decent enough. I Am Brutal, Pehle Lohe Ki Chingaari and We Mix You Michael Jackson, which gives an impression of a festive stage performance, are more situational in nature and hopefully will go in with the narrative. The plaintive Zardosi Lamhe is sincere and feels impassioned in the voice of Moin Sabri. I especially liked the choice of string instruments and the percussion frame drums employed. Sanjeev Srivastava's tunes in Revolver Rani are very much unconventional, but is worth a listen.
