Music Review: Eeswaran (Tamil)

Thamizhan Pattu is foot-tapping folk in true Thaman-style, while the title song, its frenzied percussion aside, is standard kuthu bolstered by peppy vocals from Deepak and Aravind Srinivas. In Mangalyam, Silambarasan's voice is annoyingly synthesised to the point of pushing the template (remember Banthi Poola Janaki and Nari Nari?) way too far. Velli Nillavae, the closer, is where it all comes together, with singer M. L. Gayatri hitting all the right notes with her superb rendition of the euphonious melody. S. Thaman, in his return to Kollywood after three years, delivers a tepid fare with Eeswaran.
