(It's worth noting that "Google Currents" should not be confused with an earlier product called "Google Currents" which existed from 2011-2013 as a news magazine app. Likewise, "Spaces" should not be confused with its short-lived "Google Spaces" messaging app, which existed for nine months in 2016.)
  • Google's YouTube rolls out support for picture-in-picture mode on iOS, as the video platform adds new tools, including new video effects, editing capabilities, and the ability to reply to comments by creating a Short, to retain creators on the service.
  • India's ShareChat and MX Player to merge their respective short-video apps, Moj and MX TakaTak, in a deal worth US$ 900 million.
  • Twitter reports Q4 revenue of US$ 1.57 billion, up 22% YoY, net income of US$ 182 million, down 18% YoY, as monetisable daily active users reach 217 million, up from 192M YoY.
  • Online dating app Tinder brings back Blind Date feature, a "new social experience that pairs members before allowing them to view each other's profile, making conversation, rather than photos."
