Book Review: The Last to See Her
Two outwardly close and loving sisters end up figuring out both have been keeping things from each other in Courtney Evan Tate's intriguing-if-predictable tale of domestic suspense. Genevieve, a successful writer of romance novels, is finalising the details of her acrimonious divorce from her infidel husband, when her surgeon sister Meg calls on her to visit New York City to celebrate the occassion. But the sisters' getaway quickly turns tragic when Gen decides to take a late-night walk and never returns, the ensuing investigation spilling out secrets, deceptions and betrayals by the dozen that casts her disappearance in an entirely new light. The Last to See Her's familiar setup has a way of being less gripping than the ones it's cut away from, and despite the compelling premise, the storyline needed more spunk, more detailing, and definitely a lot more psychological insight. A series of tense moments do little to alleviate the gnawing sensation that it's all been-there-done-that.
