  • Australia's information commissioner sues Facebook for allegedly breaching the privacy of over 300,000 Australians by sharing their personal details with political data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica without their knowledge.
  • Retail giant Amazon says it will start selling its cashier-less store technology used in Amazon Go, dubbed Just Walk Out, to other companies, as data privacy concerns loom large.
  • Disney's on-demand video streaming service Disney+ lands in India through Hotstar (It's worth noting that Disney acquired Fox last year, there by making it the owner of Star India and its digital properties, including Hotstar) as a limited release ahead of its launch on March 29.

  • Verizon-owned Yahoo! branches out to mobile business with a new Yahoo! Mobile wireless service plan for registered account users; comes with unlimited texts, calls and 4G data, all for the flat fee of US$ 40 a month and a free Yahoo Mail pro subscription, which includes 1,000GB of inbox storage.
  • Facebook to shut down MSQRD, an AR selfie app it acquired in 2016, on April 13 after its features were into its own apps.
  • Google reportedly pressurising TV and set top box manufacturers from using competitors' software based on Android, thus building a huge firewall against competition in the living room; "any company that licenses Google's Android TV operating system for some of its smart TVs or even uses Android as a mobile operating system has to agree to terms that prevent it from also building devices using forked versions of Android like Amazon's Fire TV operating system," reports Protocol.

  • Popular iPhone and iPad apps found accessing clipboard contents (including from Macbooks if Universal Clipboard is enabled) without explicit user permissions, potentially exposing private and personal data to suspicious apps.
