Music trio Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa were missing in action for a full one year, but if their return Raazi is anything to go by, I think we can all agree why they are one of the most exciting composers we have in Bollywood today. Ae Watan is an invigorating patriotic number as much as it's a hymnal prayer, riding on Arijit Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan's pitch-perfect rendition. Dilbaro is sung with a lot of heft by Harshdeep Kaur, Vibha Saraf and Shankar Mahadevan and the folky melody works beautifully for its light-handedness and pleasing interludes. The alluring soundscape that adorns Raazi is evocative of the composers' earlier outing Mirzya, but Arijit Singh's penetrating vocals complements well the melancholic tune suffused with sad sweet overtones. SEL turn in a lush, varied score with Raazi, one that ranks among their best in recent years.
