Music Review: Jagga Jasoos (Hindi)
Composer(s): Pritam Chakraborty

For what's Bollywood's first musical, Pritam lets his imagination run riot in Jagga Jasoos. And nowhere it's more evident than in Ullu Ka Pattha, a hyper-energetic flamenco-influenced number sung with effervescence by Arijit Singh and Nikhita Gandhi. Vocalised by Arijit and Amit Mishra, Galti Se Mistake too follows a wacky musical pattern that gets perfect accompaniment in its catchy tribal beats, while Jhumritalaiyya's guitary melody is pleasant in the way most country songs are. Arijit Singh's heartfelt delivery completely sells Phir Wahi, lending the soft guitar-flecked piece a pensive touch. Finger-snaps, mellow percussion and piano take centre-stage in Musafir, an easy-on-the-ears melody featuring Tushar Joshi, thereby relieving Arijit of his vocal duties, even as it gains a choral crescendo of sorts in the outro. Anurag Basu continues to extract the best from Pritam in what is undoubtedly his best since Barfi!.
