Listen: A. R. Rahman's "Sarsariya" (Hindi)

A. R. Rahman's Mohenjo Daro is pure gold. The musical canvas is noticeably grand, and although I'm not very convinced of the accuracy of it (nor is there much reference point?) - there is a heavy tilt towards Arabic and Persian styles of music - I love them for what they are, a gorgeous confluence of balmy and serene tunes, spectacularly aided by a myriad mix of instruments and fabulous singing from everyone involved. While Mohenjo Mohenjo, with its anthemic folk sound palette, and Sindhu Ma/Tu Hai, with its arresting harmonies, are beyond doubt exquisitely composed, it's the captivating instrumentals and Shashaa Tirupati-Shashwat Singh-sung Sarsariya (a mind-boggling fusion of bongos and tribal-infused folk sounds) that propel the soundtrack to an altogether new level of ethereal bliss. For Shashaa, this is her second* Hindi outing after Vaada Vaada (Kochadaiiyaan's Hindi version of Manappenin Sathiyam), and she absolutely rocks it with her amazingly fluid rendition, like she always does. Listen below:

*This is of course discounting her backing vocals for Rahman's Coke Studio offering Zariya.
