Village Kuthu is every bit a relentless and foot-tapping kuthu, marked by a heady mix of shifting rhythm patterns and heavy percussion that's moulded into a swirl of thumping energy. The title song harks back to the Rajini songs from 90's, with D. Imman offering a groovy slice of folk melody that recalls A. R. Rahman's En Peru Padayappa, and benefits immensely from late S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, who sounds as lively as ever. In Saara Kaattrae, Imman weaves a rich tapestry of sounds, crafting a lilting sindhu bhairavi-raga based melody that's led by Shreya Ghoshal and Sid Sriram, even as the composer makes tiny tweaks to his typical style of melody and beat, giving the track a new dimension. Sid Sriram, alongside K. S. Chithra, feature in Yennuyire, a moving declaration of love replete with traditional instrumentation and filled with orchestral string sections and satisfying vocal harmonies, while Marudhaani, its derivative arrangement aside, is sonically buoyant and rides along a catchy folk rhythm (with some Latin'esque guitarwork from Keba Jeremiah) that finds Vandana Srinivasan, Nakash Aziz and Anthony Daasan in excellent form. Vaa Saamy is electrifying rock elevated by an engaging medley of chenda melam and classical flourishes, even as A For Annaatthe runs on high-powered verses from Arivu and frenetic beats, turning it into a stylishly mounted piece. D. Imman delivers a very entertaining soundtrack with Annaatthe.
