With a name like Mohith Rahmaniac, it's safe to assume the composer is a die-hard fan of A. R. Rahman. But it's not just the moniker, for the music of Mad also sees the return of some seasoned singers like Unnikrishnan, Srinivas and Naresh Iyer, who are known for their collaborations with the Isai Puyal in the past. Kanapaduna is a lilting classical tune with a contemporary twist, featuring a sparse orchestration that lets Unnikrishnan's rendition take centre-stage. Srinivas brings his inimitable charm to the breezy acoustic melody Doorama, while Naresh Iyer and Manisha Eerabathini turn up the charm in the groovy electro-pop number Nee Thalaputho, even as Mohith incorporates classical strains (that veena by Phani Narayana!) to fantastic effect. Shakthisree Gopalan's phenomenal vocals, punctuated by lovely strings, glide atop a soft-rock soundbed in Mounamaina Gaanama, and Kailash Kher, likewise, makes his presence felt in the pensive sufi'esque piece Bandishe Khathil. But it's the album's opener Seetha Momuni that emerges the showstopper, its concoction of classical and western elements offering a gorgeous slice of ebullient pop in Hemachandra and Jaya Sai Vaishnavi's excellent rendition. Mohith Rahmaniac, in his debut, delivers a snazzy soundtrack with Mad.
