Music Review: Mission Mangal (Hindi)

Amit Trivedi spins a funky, groovy song in Dil Mein Mars Hai, complete with a catchy Om Mangalam refrain that evokes Kambakkht Ishq's song of the same name. Benny Dayal's ebullient singing is the real clincher, though. Shaabaashiyaan, with its grand orchestral score, is impeccably produced, and exceedingly, resoundingly, monumentally fine, building into an anthemic crescendo that's invigorating at the same time exuding an optimism that celebrates the willpower and winning spirit of the people behind India's mission to Mars. Shilpa Rao — who has previously collaborated with Trivedi for songs like Yeh Pal, Aahatein, Manmarziyan, and my personal favourite Gustakh Dil — lends a quiet gravitas and transforms the exquisite number into something powerful and electrifying. Amit Trivedi has an easy winner on his hands with Mission Mangal. Or let's just say, mission accomplished!
