Jakes Bejoy is the latest export from Kerala after Jassie Gift, Gopi Sundar and Shaan Rahman to hit Andhra shores, and if his debut in Taxiwaala is any indication, it's definitely something to look forward to. Concocting a heady blend of jaunty, laid-back tunes (Ladies and Gentleman and Crazy Car), catchy synthetic-sitar fusion (Maate Vinadhuga sung effortlessly in his signature style by Sid Sriram), and gentle strings-soaked pathos (Neeve Neeve), they aren't the kind of songs you would call mainstream, yet Bejoy seems to understand the pulse well enough to mix them to interesting results. I can't wait to see where he goes from here.
