Listen: Taylor Swift's "...Ready For It?"

Taylor Swift's swift transition from country to country-pop to full-on pop continues with ...Ready For It?, a hard banger that's about her blooming relationship with a man who is "Younger than my exes but he act like such a man" and doesn't have to try too hard, even as she flips the narrative to sing about her own reputation for having a string of lovers and finding love anew. And fantasising about sex ("In the middle of the night, in my dreams/ You should see the things we do, baby..."). As a tune, it is definitely an improvement over Look What You Made Me Do, bearing an electronic sound that's hard not to miss, but in doing so, Swift has lost what made her unique. Not to say that it wasn't evident in 1989, but I long for a song like Back to December or Begin Again. Will that ever happen?
