Best Songs of 2016 - II

A continuation of the best songs of 2016...

Nila Nila, Aagayamey (Achu Rajamani) - Ambient, ear-pleasing melodies from Achu.

Yad Lagla, Vaat Disu De (Ajay-Atul) - I would love to explore more Marathi music, if only time allowed me! But these stringy folk tunes from Gogavale brothers are simply outstanding.

Hone Do Batiyaan (Amit Trivedi) - Nandini Srikar and Zeb Bangash join hands for a beautiful folky melody.

Idukki, Orupuzhayarikil (Bijibal) - Largely missing in action after a super-prolific 2015, Bijibal gives the beautiful place a befitting ode in Idukki. Shwetha Mohan, on the other hand, rules the stunning Orupuzhayarikil.

Jilka Jilka, Jogulave, Mugilu Belmugilu, Naa E Sanjege, Komala Henne, Ranga Bhoomiya, Katheyondu Shuruvaagide, Ayomaya, Aley Moodathe (Charan Raj) - The best of the best. I have no other words to say. Charan Raj, I will be closely watching you!

Pranaamam (Devi Sri Prasad) - Shankar Mahadevan's towering voice is the best thing about this hyper-energetic song.

Mugilu Matte Matte (Dheerendra Doss) - Doss' indie vibe finds its perfect match in singer Joel Dubba.

Mai Ri Mai (Hitesh Sonik) - Mesmerising is the word.

Mazhai Ingillaye (K) - How clear is Vaikom Vijayalakshmi's voice! That in itself is a rarity these days.

Summane (Manikanth Kadri) - Where there is Javed Ali, there is magic!

Kaantha (Masala Coffee) - The famous Thrissur Pooram song gets a Tamil makeover and it's fantastic!

Yegirenay Yegirenay (Mickey J. Meyer) - Mickey scored big time with Brahmotsavam, yet nothing beats this soothing earworm of a melody from Okka Ammayi Thappa.

Zara Zara (Mikey McCleary) - Kavita Seth's husky vocals adds to this lovely song's charm and how.

Anuvai (Prakash Nikki) - Post Rowthiram (remember Maalai Mangum Neram?), Prakash Nikki returns after a gap of five years, this time in impressive form.

Manogatham Bhavan (Prashant Pillai) - Prashant has a thing for Carnatic fusion. Last year it was Vasanthamallike, this year it is Manogatham Bhavan and uniting them both is Haricharan Seshadri's excellent singing.

Payye Veeshum Kaatil, Nilaavil Ellame (Sachin Warrier) - Yet another singer turns composer. Sorry, scratch that. Yet another great singer turns great composer!

Ola Ola Kudisayila, Chellamma (Sean Roldan) - Sean takes off from where Santhosh Narayanan left and the result is just as gorgeous.

Thennal Nilavinte, Neelakkannulla Maanea, Ethu Meghamaari, Home, Raavu Mayave (Shaan Rahman) - So many albums and so many standout tracks!

Chilathunaam (Shamej Shreedhar) - The qawwali of the year, according to me.

Hota Hai, Ek Nadi Thi, Kaaga, Aave Re Hitchki (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy) - Grandiose in orchestration and scale, music trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy spellbind with their delightful sonic outing.

Kaari Kaari, Tere Bin (Shantanu Moitra) - Kaari Kaari is so moving in Qurat Ul Ain Balouch's heartfelt rendition, while Tere Bin is Moitra at his vintage best.

Pularkaalam Pole (Sooraj S. Kurup) - Haricharan Seshadri once again killing it. He is clearly on a roll of late across all South Indian languages.

Dhanak (Tapas Relia) - In times when auto-tuned atrocities are passed off as music, it's a joy to listen to Dhanak. Words cannot express the beauty of this song!

Thoduvaanam, Mazhaiyil (Vishal Chandrashekhar) - I am going to say it again. Unnikrishnan needs to sing more often.

Jeete Hain Chal (Vishal Khurana) - Kavita Seth once again rules this top-notch inspirational anthem.
