Music Review: Maattrraan

Rettai Kathirae reeks of Harris's previous offerings and has nothing new to offer. Naani Koni is no different, but the singers try their best to evoke interest of an otherwise templatised song. Theeyae Theeyae, with its middle-eastern roots, and Yamma Yamma reboot - Yaaro Yaaro - are just passable, while Kaal Mulaitha Poovae, sporting enthusiastic vocals from Javed Ali and Mahalakshmi Iyer, is the sole track that somehow stands out despite its vague resemblance to Irukaanaa (Nanban). Maattrraan is so mediocre that it makes OKOK and 7aum Arivu feel like musical gems. Don't get me wrong, Harris Jayaraj's compositions are getting stale beyond endurance and treads on already heard before territory for the umpteenth time!
