Music Review: Komban (Tamil)
Composer(s): G. V. Prakash Kumar

Incorporating thavil, nadaswaram and trumpets in its arrangements, album opener Kambikara Vetti is your routine percussion-heavy earthy hero introduction-cum-celebratory dance number. Appappa, with its enticing flutes and ghatam-laden orchestration, is pleasant and rides very well on Shreya Ghoshal and G. V. Prakash's superb singing. Karuppu Nerathazhagi is a refreshing kuthu - the ghatam, nadaswaram, guitar combo rocks! - exuberantly complemented by Velmurugan and Malavika, while Madhu Balakrishnan's soulful rendition works in favour of the pathos-soaked Mella Valanjadhu. The flute bits are mighty darn good too! A Celebration, the theme song, builds on a hook from Kambikara Vetti for a energetic folksy instrumental with the chorus pitching in wonderfully. G. V. Prakash impresses with village tunes in Komban after a rather tepid Pencil!
