Music Review: Manithan (Tamil)
Composer(s): Santhosh Narayanan

Santhosh Narayanan opens Manithan with a whopper of a song Aval, complete with his trademark violins and his singing partner-in-crime Pradeep Kumar. Mun Sellada, while enjoyable, reeks of Irudhi Suttru's Poda Poda, and Poi Vazhva, which follows next, works very well as a soothing contemplative melody, its arrangement, a lovely assortment of guitar, flute and soft percussion, providing the base for Santhosh and Vijaynarain's impactful rendition. Kondattam's highpoint is its exuberant fusion that marries a variety of world music styles, while Kalpana Raghavendar's humming dominates the choir-like theme song Adho. Manithan sees Santhosh Narayanan wallowing in familiar terrain, but it's enjoyable all the same.
