Music Review: Utopiayile Rajavu (Malayalam)
Composer(s): Ouseppachan
Listen to the songs online here: YouTube (M.C. Audios)
With a heavy percussion like idakka supplying the rhythm, Laavettom rides on a spell-binding rendition by Resmi Satheesh, and the added ektara, elathalam flourishes are a nice touch. Uppinu Pona is considerably more wacky in its arrangements, blending folk and classical music elements against a guitary backdrop with Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, Jassie Gift and Rahul lending pitch-perfect vocal purchase. Easily the best of the soundtrack is Chantham Thelinju, an utterly mesmerising classical melody sung beautifully by Rahul, Mridula Warrier and P. Jayachandran (yes!) in two different versions, while slightly evoking memories of En Veetu Thotathil (A. R. Rahman, Gentleman). Utopiayile Rajavu is a competent musical effort from Ouseppachan!
