Music Review: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (Hindi)
Composer(s): Pritam Chakraborty
Film: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Disco Deewane, Lat Lag Gayee and now Badtameez Dil, Benny Dayal is clearly on a roll with groovy adrenaline-pumping tracks and he does ample justice in the singing department this time as well. The holi-themed Balam Pichkari is equally high on energy, thanks to Vishal Dadlani and Shalmali Kholgade, while the guitary Ilahi (sung by Mohit Chauhan and Arijit Singh in separate versions) is pleasant and easy on the ears. Melodious and lilting, Kabira is steeped in acoustic sounds, whereas its Encore version gets a folksy makeover that makes for a subdued listen. The rest of the album's tracks, Dilliwaali Girlfriend, Subhanallah and Ghagra, float by without registering much of an impressions, mostly staying in a sonic lane that at once predictable and dated. Pritam sort of bounces back after a string of mediocre soundtracks, but Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is not his best.
