Music Review: Aurangzeb (Hindi)

Composer(s): Amartya Rahut, Vipin Mishra
Film: Aurangzeb

Amartya Rahut's techno-pop styled Barbaadiyaan (Ram Sampath, Sashaa Agha) is groovy no doubt but feels very run-of-the-mill. On the other hand its Barbaadi variant, fabulously sung by Agnee's K. Mohan, is impactful and leaves an everlasting impression. Vipin Mishra's Jigra Fakira has a sufi-rock touch and Keerthi Sagathia renders the song with apt emotion. The title track (Marianne D’Cruz Aiman) greets the listener with its enchanting choir base and so is its rock version (Vipin Mishra) which gets a peppy rock makeover backed by some wonderful use of guitar.

Trial by Fire's orchestration is mighty impressive as Battleground Gurgaon sees Mishra employing violins to stunning effect. The other two instrumentals The Father's Truth and Aurangzeb - Orchestral are equally splendid and haunting, the latter in particular exuding a grand expansive feel that fits in well with the movie's theme. Aurangzeb is a standout soundtrack in recent times and more so for its stupendous instrumentals!
