Music Review: David (Hindi)

Of the common nine tracks, Maria Pitache (Remo Fernandes) was one track that worked better for me in Hindi (probably it was the Vikram factor that played spoilsport in Tamil) while Rab Di (Prashant Pillai), Bandhay (Modern Mafia) - sung by the band itself in place of Sanjeev Thomas — and Ghum Huye (The Theme of David) (Bramfatura) impress equally, if not better, in Hindi as well. Anirudh, who went solo in Kanave Kanave, ropes in Shweta Mohan to do the honors in Yun Hi Re. This song along with Tere Mere Pyaar Ki (Prashant Pillai) and Tore Matware Naina (Maatibaani) are sort of out of place (even the lyrics seem to be a misfit at times) here.

Coming to the new additions from Mikey McCleary and Saurabh Roy, the retake of the traditional qawwali number Dama Dam Mast Qalandar is quite middling and is boosted by a fantastic singing from Rekha Bhardwaj. Its Vengeance Mix is however a messy remix. Out of Control (Nikhil D'Souza, Preeti Pillai) is more listenable in the Choir Version (Marianne, Tara Sitaria) than its original as Lucky Ali's effortless singing comes to the fore in the Islamic prayer-like Ya Husain. Saurabh Ray's solo offering Three Kills is raucous and is nothing to speak of. David, in its Bollywood variant, is a mixed bag and a little underwhelming (I get the feeling that some of the tunes are more suited to Tamil than in Hindi), although its musical variegation cannot be denied.
