Music Review: Podaa Podi
After having shot to fame in his debut film Parijatham (who can forget the song Unnai Kandane?), Dharan is back with a major release Podaa Podi. Silambarasan sings Appan Mavanae Vaada well, and the tune is quite is catchy too. Sung by Dharan himself, Hare Rama Hare Krishna is cheery and upbeat, while I am a Kuthu Dancer can be summed up in one word - semma kuthu! And having Shankar Mahadevan on the vocals only helps it every bit. Maattikittenae (Naresh Iyer, Suchitra and Benny Dayal) is a lively dance piece that's easy on the ears, even as the Theme of Podaa Podi rides on an interesting orchestration. Love Pannlama Venama, again in Simbu's voice, is a musical gibberish best avoided. Accompanied by brass'y arrangements, Un Paarvaiyilae's wacky composition style works in its favour, but the mellifluous title track, sung beautifully by Benny Dayal and Andrea Jeremiah, is easily the best of the soundtrack. Podaa Podi is peppy and fun!
