Music Review: Thuppakki
A curious mix of Romeo Aatam Potal, Maya Machindra and Kaattukuyilu, Kutti Puli Koottam is quite a passable guilty pleasure, while Antarctica is a regurgitated medley of his own previous offerings from Ko and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. Things finally look up in the melodious Poi Varava, with Karthik and Chinmayi acing the melody with their superb rendition. Vijay and Andrea Jeremiah totally rock the peppy dance-pop number Google Google, even as the obligatory Bombay Jayashri track Vennilave sees the singer accompanied by Hariharan for an unexciting Ragasiya Kanavugal (Bheema) reboot. Alaikaa Laikka, the weakest of the lot, borders on tedium, but the soundtrack closes on an interesting note with the gripping instrumental Jagdish on Mission (Theme). The problem with Harris Jayaraj is that his 'inspirations' have been very apparent, generously lifted and rehashed endlessly beyond their shelf-life. Thuppakki is marginally better, and that's not a compliment in any sense.
