Electronic sound sculpting veteran Jon Hopkins' last outing Scene Suspended was a contemplative exercise packed with gossamer-like piano and string sections. In his new 21-minute long instrumental Singing Bowl (Ascension), the English producer employs the titular singing bowl to paint an expansive, wall-to-wall landscape of queasy ambient sound that transports the listener to an altogether another dimension.
