Music Review: Pattas (Tamil)
Composer(s): Vivek-Mervin
Listen to the songs online here: Gaana
Vivek and Mervin continue to mine the Gulaebaghavali sound that originally made them popular, and in its third iteration Chill Bro, the duo tweak the tune with interesting gaana flourishes that grabs you right from the first listen. Anirudh's laidback singing style is tailor-made for the bouncy Jigidi Killaadi, while Vijay Yesudas and Niranjana dish out a pleasant melody in Piriyadha Enna that offers a neat throwback to Yuvan Shankar Raja's Machaan Machaan. The composers themselves get behind the mic for the percussive-heavy folk number Morattu Thamizhan Da, even as Mavane works fantastically as a punchy rock piece adorned with electronic and brassy elements. The soundtrack's highlight arrives in the form of Pudhu Suriyan, a hypnotic melody that Anuradha Sriram aces in her inimitable style. In Pattas, Vivek Siva and Mervin Solomon deliver yet another musically accessible album that crackles with energy and style.
