Listen: Eluvium's "Shuffle Drones"
Portland-based Matthew Cooper, who makes magically ethereal soundscapes under the moniker Eluvium, has outed Shuffle Drones, a brand new collection of 23 pieces that have no start or end, yet somehow coalesce into one seamless whole that's downright hypnotic. To quote his own words (which also double up as the songs' titles): "Simply put, the suggested manner of listening to this work is to isolate the collection and to randomize the play pattern on infinite repeat — thus creating a shuffling drone orchestration. The intent is to create a body of work specifically designed for and in disruption of modern listening habits and to suggest something peaceful, complex, unique, and ever-changing. Thank you." As an album expressly designed to be played on a loop and on shuffle, it's all but 13 minutes long but conjures an orchestral ambience that's utterly spectacular. Stream it below -
