Music Review: Kavan (Tamil)

Happy New Yearu joins an already long list of weary, ennui-inducing kuthu songs and is at best an aural assault. Oxygen on the other hand is more enjoyable as a synth-coated melody, propped very well by an interesting orchestral mix. The heavy auto-tune gets in the way of Mathurangalam, a passably engaging jazzy number, and Boomerang, while Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai's genre-bending techno-Carnatic-folk medley fails to get beyond what's a modern makeover of the Subramania Bharati song. Kavan unsuccessfully blends a multitude of genres with mixed results.
