Music Review: Naan Rajavaga Pogiren

Coming straight to the best of the soundtrack Raja Raja, Amit Trivedi's find Shalmali Kholgade handles the retro'ish track with great finesse and for a minute I couldn't believe that she could get the Tamil diction so right! Composers these days seem to be going the techno, hip-hop way and Kalaaipom, in Silambaran, Maya and Sathish's vocals, continues the trend to adequate effect, while the pleasant melody Yaar Ivano is brisk and gets fantastic purchase from G. V. Prakash and Saindhavi. The rest of the tracks Malgova and College Paadam, however, don't deserve the same love and are average at best. Naan Rajavaga Pogiren is sporadically engaging, and will be perhaps known for Shalmali's debut in Tamil.
