Music Review: Kahaani

An ode to the city of Kolkata, the opening track Aami Shotti Bolchi is an arresting jazzy mish-mash boasting of a spirited rendition by Usha Uthup. With effective vocals from Amitabh Bachchan, Rabindranath Tagore's Bengali patriotic song Ekla Cholo Re makes for a serene listen, even as Tore Bina's gorgeous Hindustani-rock fusion is splendidly tuned and beautifully sung by Sukhwinder Singh. K. K. and Shreya Ghoshal stand out in the affecting title track (the latter in an acoustic version), while Ra.One's Bhare Naina plays peekaboo in the superlatively composed grungy, rock-leaning Piya Tu Kaahe Rootha Re, aided by spectacular vocals from Pakistani Hindustani singer Javed Bashir. Vishal-Shekhar's Kahaani is a soundtrack with a difference, and in their fourth collaboration with director Sujoy Ghosh, the duo deliver one of their career best.
