Music Review: Miruthan (Tamil)

Munnal Kadhali opens with a tune that's highly evocative of the Malayalam song Chellathamare (Hallo), but soon morphs into an engaging fare, with Haricharan's melodious reprise version scoring a tad better than Vishal Dadlani's hip-hop styled variant. Veri Veri has Suraj Jagan doing what he does best, delivering the ferocious song in his trademark raspy voice. The title song is characterised by a sweeping orchestral arrangement comprising of clarinets and violins, and sounding as exceptional as ever are Shreya Ghoshal and Vijay Yesudas. Horrifying Zombies, the instrumental, is thrilling and urgent, but the best of the soundtrack is Bitten by Insanity, a three-minute long intriguing piece that neatly piles on a sense of disquiet and unease, thanks to them lovely violins. D. Imman's latest offering Miruthan strikes a chord!
