Heavy Rotation: Jai Wolf, Pet Shop Boys, Wussy & More
Day Wave, DIIV and Jai Wolf, amongst other top favourite listens from this week... But seriously Rihanna, please release that album of yours. The wait is excruciating!
I'm In Control ft. Popcaan (AlunaGeorge) - Catchy dancehall (moombahton is perhaps a better fit) yes, but a little familiar, more like a mix of Major Lazer's Lean On and Jamie xx's Good Times.
Gone (Day Wave) - Gone is more of what you would anticipate from a singer like Jackson Phillips, thoroughly hazy and chill. On a side note, it does sound similar to You Are Who You Are in terms of its arrangements, don't you think?
Is The Is Are (DIIV) - DIIV have finally shared the title track from their upcoming album and it's every bit addictive and disorienting the way you would expect it to be.
Cake by the Ocean (DNCE) - Pop music hasn't sounded this hooky in a long time!
My Friend Tia (Field Report) - This touching song, about a neighbour of the band frontman Chris Porterfield, an eight-year old Tia who suffers from sickle cell anemia, is the most lovely thing you will hear today. She is indeed the bravest girl in the whole wide world!
How Could You Know (High Highs) - What more can you expect when an indie-pop duo call themselves by the moniker High Highs? An absolutely dreamy, ethereal song this!
Indian Summer (Jai Wolf) - Very Indian, very ebullient and very irresistible, that sums up about Jai Wolf's Indian Summer. Too bad, I am late to the party!
Love is Blind (Låpsley aka Holly Fletcher) - Very few songs move you right in the very first listen, and this melodious stunner from 19-year-old Holly Fletcher is one of them.
Sunset Tower (Nicholas Krgovich) - After the breezy The Place Goes Quiet, Vancouver musician Nicholas Krgovich delivers something melodious and moody with Sunset Tower.
Inner Sanctum (Pet Shop Boys) - Pulsating and highly energetic electronic music from British synthpop duo Pet Shop Boys.
Unstoppable (Sia Furler) - Sia channelises Chandelier once again in this invigorating single from her forthcoming album This is Acting.
Redlegs (UXO) - Epic banger of a track, no less!
Life of Pause (Wild Nothing) - Just the kind of synthy tune, so gorgeous, melodic and perfect!
Dropping Horses (Wussy) - Distortion feels so good, and I haven't experienced a song as beautiful as Dropping Horses in recent times. probably excluding Crescendo's Repulsor.
