Listen: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's "Menmayaay" (Tamil)

Prithviraj may be a Bollywood film, but the song that works better is Menmayaay, the Tamil equivalent of Makhmali. The orchestration by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is decidedly contemporary, with a dash of folk thrown into the mix, but it's easily one of the most euphonious pieces to have emerged in recent times, carrying a Rahman'esque shimmer that's lifted to soaring heights, thanks to a superlative vocal chemistry between Chinmayi Sripada and Haricharan Seshadri.
