Listen: Hatchie's "Obsessed"
Australian musician Hatchie aka Hariette Pillbeam is gearing up to release her first full-length album Keepsake in about a month's time, and frankly after the promising LP that was Sugar & Spice, it was a given it would be hotly anticipated. We've already heard Without A Blush and Stay With Me, and today she has shared a third slice off the album, a dreamy lo-fi number about unrequited love called Obsessed. The song finds Pillbeam further entrenched in a shoegaze'y territory, almost reminiscent of the breezy aesthetic that Day Wave and Hazel English are well known for, with the fuzzy guitars complementing beautifully the gauzy melodic bliss-out. Yet for all its indie-pop shimmer, there is a palpable undercurrent of melancholy that's perhaps best evidenced by the lyric: "What happens when the love you give is greater than you receive?" Haven't we all been there? Give it a listen below -
