Backed by Nithyashree Venkataramanan's flawless vocals, Marala Raaa opens on a soft dreamy note, only to switch gears towards the outro with a seamless transition to rock. Haricharan and Sinduri Vishal are dependably good in the strings-flecked melody Manase Thalupe, while Ashwathi aces the simple-if-familiar sounding Nallani Kanulalo. Ye Piduguki's punchy hard-rock sounds are undone by an overwhelmingly predictable tune and Arunraja Kamaraj's raspy vocals that recall to mind Pangaali and Neruppuda. Ilaiyaraaja, for his part, brings back his signature synth-soaked goodness to Naa Kadhalo Yuvarani that Vibhavari Apte Joshi delivers without a hitch, even as she sounds so unlike herself in the jazzy Thikkalodi Vesham. Kadhalo Rajakumari is good stuff from Vishal and the maestro, yet leaves you with a sense of wanting more.
