Music Review: Raja Rani (Tamil)

Just when I thought Hey Baby to be yet another love failure (or rather marriage failure) song, I was pleasantly surprised by the interesting fusion of a capella and drunken singing, with G. V. Prakash, Gaana Bala and Aishwarya leading the vocals. Shakthisree Gopalan has emerged one of my favorite singers of late, and she is downright fantabulous in the melodious folk based Angnyaade. Very refreshing listen indeed! Chillena (Clinton Cerejo, Alphonse, Alka Ajith) reminds one of Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal's Mazhai Pozhiyum, but the thavil-nadaswaram filled interludes make for an engaging diversion.
Vandana Srinivasan lights up with her heartfelt rendition of the plaintive Unnale, while Vijay Prakash, Sasha and Shalmali Kholgade seem to be having great fun crooning to the perky Oday Oday. Ms. Gopalan returns once again in top form to accompany the composer in the short and brilliantly orchestrated Imaye Imaye, the violins and flute dazzling all along the way in the background. As an instrumental piece, A Love for Life begins on a nice note only to end a tad too mawkish and forlorn with the entry of chorus. All said, G. V. Prakash redeems himself with a superlative soundtrack after a string of disappointments!

I agree that G.V Prakash made a comeback with this album. My personal favorite is Chillena, the sounds and the rhythm just flow together perfectly. I can't wait to see the movie!
