Book Review: In the Dark
A renewed take on Agatha Christie's classic locked-room mystery And Then There Were None, Loreth Anne White's In the Dark is a vivid drama that delves into an entangled story, rich with flawed characters, bold suspense, psychological elements, and a satisfying-if-obvious conclusion. It takes the familiar trope about a group of people who must find the killer before the killer finds them and turns it into an excellent revenge thriller. Atmospheric and exhilirating in equal measure despite the odd contrivances, the chilling setting forms the perfect backdrop for carefully concealed hidden motives and secret lives, while the author skilfully weaves together multiple viewpoints and alternating timelines until the very end, when the layers are peeled back to reveal the truth. A worthy homage!
