Music Review: Kahaani

Vishal-Shekhar, who rose to fame after Sujoy Ghosh's Jhankaar Beats, team up with the director for the fourth time in Kahaani. Describing Kolkata, the opening track Aami Shotti Bolchi is an interesting jazzy mish-mash with spirited rendition from Usha Uthup and Shekar Ravjiani despite its Raftaarein (Ra.One) hangover. Sung by Amitabh Bachchan, Rabindranath Tagore's Bengali patriotic song Ekla Cholo Re is a wonderful listen. The chorus adds a great contrast to Bachchan's low-pitched vocals. Supported by Vishal Dadlani, K. K. and Shreya Ghoshal stand out in the affecting title track (the latter in an acoustic version), while Ra.One's Bhare Naina plays peekaboo in the otherwise superlatively composed Piya Tu Kaahe Rootha Re (Javed Bashir). Tore Bina is sung beautifully by Sukhwinder Singh, a track that feels a bit inspired from A. R. Rahman. Vishal-Shekhar's Kahaani is a soundtrack with a difference, and one of their best!
