Listen: Mdou Moctar's "Afrique Victime"

Mahamadou Souleymane, also known by the musical moniker Mdou Moctar, is all set to release his new album Afrique Victime next month (5/21), and following the release of the groovy desert blues-leaning Chismiten and the hymnal acoustic reverie Tala Tannam, the Niger-based Tuareg songwriter and musician has shared the title track, a chugging and fiery call for rejecting imperialism that's punctuated by blistering guitar solos, even as the tempo steadily picks up and builds into something ecstatic and rapturous. "Afrique Victime is a message to all of the countries with money and power who come into Africa and kill the leaders who try to empower the people and lead revolutions," Moctar says. "This pushes the area into danger and instability and emboldens the terrorists, and it's the people who suffer and have no justice. Africa is innocent." Have it a go below -
