Music Review: Rendavathu Padam (Tamil)

Aappu Birthday (Mukesh, Rahul Nambiar, Velmurugan) begins on a Michael Jackson'ish note only to briefly indulge in dubstep before stepping onto solid Tamil kuthu territory. Vijay Prakash's enthusiastic vocals are a perfect match for the foot-tapping dappan koothu number Adutha Paruppu, even as Hariharan and Ujjainee ace the Carnatic western fusion Kuppai Thotti. The highlight of the soundtrack is however Roja Poo, a track that stunningly incorporates the instruments that Ilaiyaraaja would use for such a duet song in the 80's. And that too when S.P.B. and Chithra join the mix, need you ask more? Madan Karky's highly imaginative lyrics and Kannan's entertaining score makes Rendavathu Padam worth a listen!
