Music Review: Oru Kal Oru Kannadi

Adada Oru sung by Karthik, mixes Harris Jayaraj's own Silu Silu Siluvena (Kovil) and Karu Karu (Pachaikili Muthucharam) but engaging it is all the same. Akila Akila follows his staid overused templates, sampling bits from his work, Neruppe (Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu), Yellae Lama (7aum Arivu) and Amali Thumali (Ko), and even Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal, while Azhage Azhage just about passes muster. Kaadhal Oru Butterfly, with its lovely interludes, is interestingly tuned and works very well, but again the overwhelming familiarity (Un Sirippinil (Pachaikili Muthucharam) works against its favour. The love failure track Venaam Macha (Naresh Iyer, Velmurugan) is a catchy dappan koothu and the lyrics are damn funny too. OK OK is strictly OK and it's high time Harris stops this rehash!
