Listen: The Weeknd's "Niagara Falls"
Abel Tesfaye's 2022 outing Dawn FM was littered with bangers, right from Michael Jackson-inspired Sacrifice to the disco-synthwave medley Take My Breath. Hurry Up Tomorrow, his sixth studio album and the final installment of the After Hours trilogy, finds the Canadian singer blending his trademark synth-noir sounds with impeccable production. Opener Wake Me Up is arresting and an entrancing ode to Jackson's Thriller. It's one of those perfectly assembled pop songs that is elevated to genius level by doing the little things right. The moody, slow-burner Baptized in Fear is stellar, while the title track serves as a fitting outro, its introspective balladry complemented well by a melodic core. Drive glides across slinky grooves, and in Niagara Falls, Tesfaye concocts a lush, poppier soundscape with glitchy, pitched-up vocals and electronic effects pinging around. Listen below -
