And Birthday Cake is ample proof that the Brooklyn alt-rockers have perfected the art of crafting songs that are patently unique, yet instantly recognisable as coming from them. Against jangly acoustic strums, frontwoman Leah Wellbaum sings about the helplessness at having decisions made for us by other people, metaphorically juxtaposing it to the crazy extent parents go for their kids' birthday parties ("Well you treat me like a little toy and make me do a dance").
