Music Review: 7aum Arivu
Oh Ringa Ringa is a shameless mish-mash of Harris's own songs, that is if you can put past its uncanny resemblance to Sakkarakatti's Taxi Taxi. Mun Andhi Charal, though sung beautifully by Karthik, exudes an already heard before feeling, Rahman's Omana Penne in particular. Yellae Lamma has a catchy groove, and Vijay Praksh, Karthik and Shruti Hassan lend superb vocal support. Marked by minimal orchestration, predominantly ghatam, Yamma Yamma's pathos is sung effortlessly by S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, not to mention Shweta Mohan's appearance in a truly superb second interlude. Innum Enna Thozha sung by Balram, Naresh Iyer and Suchith Sureesan is evidently a motivational track, middling and passable, while the much talked about Mandarin song The Rise of Damo (Hao Wang) works well as a mellifluous number despite its nursery rhyme-like structure. Harris Jayaraj delivers a strictly average soundtrack, who needs to take stock of his over-used templates.
