Listen: Grizzly Bear's "Painted Ruins"

Lush is the word that comes to mind as I listen to Brooklyn-based indie rock outfit Grizzly Bear's Painted Ruins, their fifth record and first in five years. The sounds, while synth-heavy and punctuated by anthemic choruses (Three Rings, Cut-out, Neighbors), are textured and an exhilarating blend of moody, distorted psychedelia, while Systole's ambient-leaning melody is an easy standout, augmented by gentle guitar strums, as is the album closer Sky Took Hold.
