Music Review: Thappana

Thappana's short three-track soundtrack begins on a melodious note with Oorum Perum Parayathe, sung beautifully by Vijay Yesudas. The title song (Sanjeev Thomas) is quite catchy, although it is similar to his previous compositions Nenjinullil (Diamond Necklace) and Aai Shabba (Karnaa). Completely Ilaiyaraaja'esque in its inspiration, Manivaaga Pootha is splendorous and the singers Madhu Balakrishnan and Thulasi Yatheendran do perfect justice to it. Besides this obvious similarity, the track does have touches of the oldie Senthamizh Thaen Mozhiyal. Vidyasagar leaves his trademark style in Thappana; definitely worth a listen while it lasts.
